ABOUT THE PRACTICE
The approach to my practice works towards both creating a harmonious link between the physical and cognitive development of our physical literacy and looks towards our ability to cross reference, adapt and transform in relation to a multidimensional playing field that exists in the world of movement. Through the Microbatics practice we move into acrobatic manoeuvres, approaching inversions, navigating falling and rising, activating our ability to consciously relax, manipulate tension and refine our dynamic strength capacities. A few other things will definitely appear along the way…
The Microbatic practice stems from a personal necessity of developing an approach to the world of inversions as well as navigating all manoeuvres and directional choices in an agile and dexterous manner. It is informed by earlier setbacks and injuries, which in turn required an evolution to the working methodologies presented. This forms the foundation of the practice.
The individual is invited to integrate the acrobatic language seamlessly and precisely into their system. Through this approach, the method aims at nurturing our ability to blur the edges between what separates acrobatics and movement of all dimensions. Expect to cultivate and evolve your abilities to react, support, expand, balance, unravel, soften and exchange all in an attempt to deeper understand the practice and its potential.
WHO IS IT FOR?
Anyone who is interested in diving deep into the subject of acrobatics and the interconnected elements to help support a practice such as this. The course is designed to benefit both beginners and more advance practitioners, as it looks at dissecting both technical forms and the inner workings of improvisation and qualities of movement. In order to have an optimal experience some pre-requirements are recommended:
Familiarity with the cartwheel
Comfort in kicking up to a handstand position (holding a handstand in not necessary)
If in doubt feel free to reach out: info.winstonreynolds@gmail.com
This course is designed for practitioners with some foundational understanding and regular physical practice. Imagine the scale being set to the advanced beginner to intermediate practitioner.
It’s important to note that you do not need to be especially specialised or competent in any specific physical practice, but rather be involved to some extent in an ongoing relationship to practice.
CONTENT OF THE COURSE
A carefully designed PDF with embedded video material and a body of written work which dives into the is following areas of practice: Microbatic, sequence work, movement elements, improvisational frameworks and internal practice. Each area is carefully curated to complement and inform the different areas you will cover.
STRUCTURE OF THE COURSE
The course is split into 4 phases consisting of two weeks each, totalling 8 weeks of practice. It’s designed to be spread over 8 weeks, but can be extended past that depending on how you like to (spread the) work.
Each phase contains progressions, technical material, improvisational concepts and internal assignments, presenting you with a method and routine in which to set up your personal practice.
WHAT’S THE TYPICAL DURATION FOR A TRAINING SESSION?
It depends on how you enjoy working. Sessions can be compressed to 40 minutes or expanded to last a whole afternoon. The beauty of this format lies in the ability to go at your own pace.
DO I NEED SPECIFIC EQUIPMENT TO GET STARTED?
Not necessarily. The space you train in can in fact be ever changing and it is even encouraged to bring your practice to different settings: outside or indoors, small or big spaces, they’re all possible
